HISTORY
In Bronze Ages Liburnians were inhabitating Novalja. In 1th century Romans occupied island Pag. Settlement Cissa became center of the island Pag. From 1th century it is kept Roman aqueduct called Italian buza. In 7th century Croats inhabitated Pag and in 8th and 9th century they made a state. In 15th century island Pag gets under Venetians. Like many Adriatic towns and islands, Pag in 18th century gets under Austrian and after that under French rule. At the end of 19th century Croatian language became formal language in schools. At the time of World War II Pag was joined to Independent State of Croatia.
CULTURE AND ATTRACTIONS
Archeological collection Stomorica is keeping remains of jewellery and archeological material. You should also visit City Museum. Antique aqueduct starts there, 1042 m long and 60cm wide. Visitors can also see photographs of 2000 years old amphoras situated 27 m deep in Vlaska Mala Bay. There are also many foundings and monuments in other places on island Pag. You can visit Pag`s triangle (print in a stone), Caska has ruins of old Roman military camp.
LOCATION AND CLIMATE
Novalja (Island Pag, Kvarner, Croatia) is located on northwest side of island Pag. Novalja has area of around 94 km2. It has around 3500 inhabitants. Novalja has very good traffic position. It is connected with mainland with ferries, bus lines. Nearest airport is in Zemunik (Zadar). Novalja has Mediterranean climate with mild winters and hot summers. It has beautiful beaches with many contents which make Novalja one of the most popular tourist destination in Croatia, especially for young people.
TOURISM
Novalja is filled with many touristic contents, beautiful beaches, restaurants, accommodation in hotels, apartments, rooms, recreation... Most popular Novalja`s beach is Zrce. It is a pebbly beach with night clubs, bars... Other beaches around Novalja: Caska, aslope beach, Planjka, sandy beach, Strasko, rocky beach... Half of St. Spirit`s camp is reserved for nudists. It has sand and pebbly beach. You can also enjoy in sport activities and recreation as well as in excursions.
